Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti has announced the suspension of academic activities on campus for two weeks with effect from 11th April, 2023.
The decision was made by the university Senate and approved by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Edward Olanipekun.
In a press release issued by the Head of Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs, Bode Olofinmuagun, all students of the university have been ordered to vacate the campus premises immediately and should not be seen within the campus premises for the next two weeks.
Parents and guardians have also been advised to invite their wards home immediately.
The reason for the suspension of academic activities has not been disclosed. However, it is expected that the university will use the two-week period to carry out necessary maintenance works and put in place measures to ensure the safety of students and staff.
In light of the announcement, students were seen packing their belongings and leaving the campus premises. Some expressed disappointment at the sudden suspension, while others welcomed the break and saw it as an opportunity to catch up on their studies.
It is important to note that any student found wandering around the university premises during the period of the suspension does so at his/her own risk. The university has urged all students to comply with the directive and stay away from the campus until the resumption of academic activities is announced.
The university management has assured parents, guardians, and the general public that it is committed to providing a conducive learning environment for its students and will continue to take measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its students and staff.
