A tragic explosion has rocked an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyu Community of Bwari Area Council, Abuja, on Monday, claiming the life of one student and leaving four others injured.
Edugist correspondent gathered that the incident, which occurred around noon on Monday, has left the community in shock and mourning.
The Kuchibiyu community, located approximately 42 kilometers from the Abuja city center, was thrown into chaos when the explosion occurred within the school premises.
Emergency responders and security personnel, including the police bomb disposal squad, promptly arrived at the scene to assess the situation. The injured students were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
While official details remain sketchy, a security source revealed, “The dead student, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, bore the substance suspected to be an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) while it exploded and injured the other students, thereby causing pandemonium in the centre.”
Reports indicate that the students involved had recently been admitted into the school, resuming classes on January 3, 2025, just days before the tragic incident.
Efforts to reach the school authorities for comments have been unsuccessful, and the police are yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the explosion.
The Kuchibiyu community remains tense as parents and residents call for a thorough investigation into the incident to prevent a recurrence.
The explosion has raised concerns about the safety of schools in the region. Security experts urge increased vigilance and awareness, particularly in educational institutions, to safeguard students and staff.
This incident underscores the need for improved security measures in schools and communities, as well as swift investigations to bring clarity and justice to the affected families.
