Members of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA chapter paid a working visit to the Vice Chancellor , Professor Adenike Oladiji.
On Thursday , September 27,2024. During the visit, OWSD Nigeria National Vice Chairperson Prof. Folasade Olajuyigbe who is also the OWSD National Conference LOC Chairperson disclosed that preparations are in top gear towards the hosting of the conference in FUTA in July 2025. She said, “Call for Abstract submission and information on confirmed speakers are already in circulation”.
At the meeting Prof. Folasade Olajuyigbe gave a report on the OWSD Southwest maiden biennial conference held at University of Ibadan and thanked the Vice Chancellor for the honour to represent her at the conference as Plenary Speaker. The Vice Chancellor was presented with a plaque of appreciation as a plenary speaker and also conferred with the OWSD Southwest Life Member Award, a certificate for life membership and decorated with the OWSD Southwest sash.
In her remark the newly elected OWSD-FUTA Branch Coordinator, Dr. Mosunmola Adeleke commended the Vice Chancellor for her continued support for OWSD-FUTA Branch and for the conference support approved for some members that participated at the recently concluded Southwest conference.
In her response, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the OWSD members visit and pledged her unwavering support to OWSD – FUTA Branch and OWSD Nigeria National Chapter. She also expressed her pleasure with the level of preparations for the 2025 National Conference.
Prof. Olajuyigbe was accompanied by Southwest Treasurer, Dr. Esther Oyebode; and the newly inaugurated OWSD-FUTA Branch Executives, Coordinator, Dr. Mosunmola Adeleke; Vice Coordinator, Dr. Oluwayomi Faromika; Secretary, Dr. Oritoke Okeowo; Treasurer, Dr. Sadura Akinrinwa, and Financial Secretary, Mrs. Augustina Ibeto.
OWSD, a program unit of UNESCO, is an international organization founded in 1987. It is the first international forum to unite eminent women scientists from the developing and developed worlds with the objective of strengthening their role in the development process and promoting their representation in scientific and technological leadership. OWSD provides research training, career development and networking opportunities for women scientists throughout the developing world at different stages in their careers.
