The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has officially commissioned the Osi campus of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, a historic event marking a turning point in the educational and economic landscape of the state. The commissioning, which took place on January 8, 2025, fulfilled a 16-year-long dream since the institution’s establishment.
The satellite campus, located in Osi, Ekiti Local Government Area, boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including lecture theatres, laboratories, studios, and a serene environment, all designed to foster academic excellence.
Speaking at the event, Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted the significance of the project in line with his administration’s agenda.
“The state-of-the-art lecture theatres, laboratories, studios, and serene learning environment is a testament to our commitment to sustainable development in academics as well as social inclusion,” he said.
Governor AbdulRazaq noted that the campus would serve as a catalyst for economic growth by fostering human capital development and creating opportunities for the youth. He emphasized the dedication of his administration in completing a project initiated by the previous government, stating, “Let the campus become a training ground for world-class professionals.”
Dr. Mary Ronke Arinde, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, described the campus as a monumental step toward bringing tertiary education closer to the people. She noted that the Osi campus would not only contribute to regional development but also increase access to quality education and skill acquisition for the youth.
The Chancellor of KWASU, Engineer Dr. Johnson Bamidele Adewunmi FNSE, expressed gratitude to the people of Osi for their warm reception, while the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of KWASU’s Governing Council, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali OON, pledged to ensure proper use and management of the campus facilities.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh expressed profound appreciation to Governor AbdulRazaq for his relentless efforts. “The commissioning and handing over of this campus is a 16-year-old dream that has become a reality against all odds,” he stated. Professor Jimoh revealed that the campus would host the Faculty of Environmental Sciences with seven departments, including Geography, Urban and Regional Planning, and Estate Management, recently approved by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC).
The historic event was graced by dignitaries, including members of the state executive council, Kwara State House of Assembly, political leaders, traditional rulers, and a large gathering of residents from Osi and neighboring communities. Staff and students of KWASU, alongside the Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, also witnessed the momentous occasion.
