Governor Uba Sani has visited the traumatized community of Kuriga in Chikun LGA, Kaduna, pledging to recover all the students abducted on Thursday. Although the exact number of kidnapped children remains unconfirmed, the governor assured the community that both the government and the school management were actively working to ascertain the accurate figures.

During his visit, Governor Sani revealed that he had received unwavering support from President Bola Tinubu and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, in their collective effort to ensure the safe return of the abducted students.

Urging the community not to lose hope, he implored them to collaborate with the government to reinforce security measures and secure the release of the kidnapped children.

Governor Sani, visibly affected by the incident, extended his heartfelt sympathy to the parents of the abducted schoolchildren, promising that the government would spare no effort in reuniting the primary and secondary school pupils with their families. Briefed by the district head, Lawal Abdullahi, at the LEA Primary and Secondary School in Kuriga, the governor expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a vigilante who valiantly confronted the bandits.

Taking proactive measures, Governor Sani announced the establishment of a security committee in Kuriga, comprising key stakeholders from the community, security agencies, and the state government. Furthermore, he pledged to advocate for the establishment of a military base in Kuriga, seeking support from the chief of defence staff and chief of army staff to strengthen security in the area.

In a subsequent statement, Governor Sani emphasized the pressing need for state police, citing the Kuriga incident as a poignant example. He highlighted the importance of a standing police force familiar with the community’s terrain, people, and issues, equipped with the constitutional authority to bear arms, including sophisticated weaponry.

The governor underscored that this measure was crucial, as vigilante groups currently lack the ability to carry arms, rendering them vulnerable to criminal elements with little regard for human life.
