Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, the Katsina State Government, under the leadership of Governor Dikko Radda, has sanctioned an investment exceeding N340 million for two critical electricity projects.

This significant financial allocation is designed not only to restore power but also to strengthen security measures within the university premises.

The first project involves the replacement of a crucial 33KVA indoor control panel and associated components, which are vital for the institution’s power infrastructure.

This project, costing over N260 million, underscores the government’s commitment to resolving the power outage swiftly, a situation that has previously disrupted academic activities.

In parallel, the installation of solar-powered security lighting, valued at over N98 million, aims to bolster the university’s defenses against vandalism and enhance overall safety for students and staff. This initiative reflects a proactive approach to maintaining a secure and conducive learning environment.

Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu-Yar’adua, the Director of Press in the Secretary to the State Government’s office, emphasized that these projects are part of a broader government strategy to uplift educational standards across the state.

He noted that the governor’s decision was a direct response to recent power disruptions, highlighting Governor Radda’s dedication to swiftly addressing infrastructural challenges that affect academic institutions.

The university administration, recognizing the state government’s efforts, has adjusted the academic calendar to accommodate the ongoing repairs. Although initial plans to resume classes were set for mid-September, the university’s senate has prudently opted to delay reopening until the power supply is fully reinstated. This decision ensures that once students return, they will benefit from a stable and secure educational setting.

Governor Radda’s initiative not only addresses immediate infrastructural needs but also symbolizes a broader commitment to enhancing educational facilities and standards in Katsina State, promising long-term benefits for the university community.
