JAMB, Police combat fake UTME websites
The Nigeria Police Force and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have issued a stern warning regarding the proliferation of fraudulent websites targeting candidates preparing for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
These cautionary measures were highlighted during a joint press conference held at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, where representatives from both organizations emphasized the need for vigilance against phishing websites and scammers.
The emergence of multiple counterfeit websites, designed to dupe unsuspecting candidates into divulging personal information such as registration numbers, email addresses, and phone numbers, has prompted this collaborative effort to safeguard the integrity of the examination process. Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, and Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s spokesperson, underscored the deceptive nature of these websites and the malicious intent behind them.
Both entities condemned the actions of these unscrupulous individuals and reiterated their commitment to protecting the interests of candidates. They urged parents, guardians, and all stakeholders to ensure that candidates exclusively access their UTME Notification Slips through the officially approved JAMB website (www.jamb.gov.ng). Candidates were advised to print their slips before the specified deadline of Friday, April 19, 2024, to obtain accurate and reliable information regarding their examinations.
Furthermore, candidates were cautioned against engaging with websites offering illicit ‘live’ questions and answers, as such activities are strictly prohibited. With the UTME scheduled to commence on
Friday, April 19, and conclude on Monday, April 29, 2024, both JAMB and the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre have pledged to collaborate closely to combat online scams effectively.
The Inspector General of Police has directed the National Cyber Crime Centre to pursue perpetrators of cyber-related crimes, ensuring they face legal consequences for their actions.
JAMB reiterated its commitment to maintaining a fair and transparent examination process, urging the public to join efforts in fostering integrity and compliance with established guidelines.
