Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has appointed Professor Shaykh-Lukman Alade Jimoh as the new substantive Vice Chancellor of Kwara State University (KWASU).

This announcement was made in a recent statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye.

Professor Shaykh-Lukman’s appointment follows a rigorous screening exercise conducted by KWASU’s governing council, in which he emerged as the top candidate. Previously serving as the acting vice chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Lukman also held the position of deputy vice chancellor from 2020 to 2022.

At 60 years old, Professor Shaykh-Lukman boasts an impressive academic and professional background. He was the Best Graduating Student of the Department of Religions at the University of Ilorin in 1988 and a recipient of the University Undergraduate Scholarship Award for the 1987/1988 academic year.

He is also a member of numerous professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Public Advocacy and Management and the Council of Experts for the International Centre on Contemporary Research in Islamic Sciences, UK.

A native of Igbaja in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Professor Shaykh-Lukman brings a wealth of experience and honors to his new role at KWASU.

In a related development, Governor Abdulrazaq has sanctioned the transformation of the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin into the University of Education. This move aims to facilitate the institution’s take-off and improve logistical operations.

A statement from the Government House highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the viability of the state’s other colleges of education, aligning them with contemporary educational demands.

This decision comes shortly after the Governor signed the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (Establishment) and Kwara State University of Education (Establishment) Bills into law.

The signing ceremony, held at the Government House in Ilorin, was attended by notable figures including House of Assembly Speaker Rt Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu, Majority Leader Hon. Oba AbdulKadir Magaji, House Clerk AbdulKareem Ahmed, and Special Adviser on Special Duties Abdulrazaq Jiddah.
