The Kwara State Government has issued a stern warning to proprietors of coaching centres, urging them to stop luring students away from public schools under the guise of preparing them for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Saka Yusuf, the Executive Director of the Agency for Mass Education, delivered the warning in a statement issued on Wednesday by the agency’s press secretary, Rasheedat Anigilaje, in Ilorin.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the continued violation of regulations despite ongoing sensitization efforts, Yusuf cautioned that tutorial centres engaging in such practices would face consequences.
“Henceforth, coaching centres should not take students from schools and register them as conventional students. This practice is in direct violation of the state’s education ordinance,” he stated.
He further emphasized that the act of poaching students could derail their education and jeopardize their future, stressing that “proprietors must support, rather than undermine, the government’s efforts to improve education standards in Kwara State.”
The warning comes as part of the state’s broader efforts to strengthen the education system and ensure students receive proper instruction within the structured framework of public schools.
