The Chairman of Odiolowo-Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon Rasaq Ajala, has visited Odi Olowo Primary School and Community Primary School, following a report that the schools have been invaded and vandalized by street boys.
According to the report shared on Edu Sphere, a community Whatsapp platform, on Tuesday September 22, 2020, the two schools in the community “are in deplorable conditions”.
The report states that the schools were invaded and vandalized totally by street bullies who took the advantage of closure of schools due to the COVID’19 pandemic.
The report adds that the school furniture, documents, boards, and some other valuable items “were removed and sold by the hoodlums who haven’t only turned the school into an abode but a dirty kitchen.”
The Supervisor for Education at OOLCDA, Hon. Lateef Akinshemoyin, and the Pioneer of the Edu Sphere platform, Amb. Mustapha, led a parents delegation from the school to the Chairman’s office.
Hon Razak Ajala who received the delegation had promised to visit the school the next day with every other key stakeholder in the community.
On Wednesday September 23, 2020, the Chairman visited the school as promised.
He was happily received by parents, teaching and non teaching staff of the school coupled with other stakeholders.
The Chairman, joined by all present had a facility tour of the school after which a formal meeting was held.
While expressing gratitude to the Chairman, Education Secretary, Mushin Lagos State, Princess Akinrinade, stated that she was certain that “something tangible would result from this sitting”.
Hon Ajala expressed his displeasure about the deplorable conditions of the schools, caused by hoodlums.
He urged all stakeholders to play their roles individually and collectively; ensuring that the amenities are well safeguarded.
“Although the money to spend to bring the facilities back on track was not integrated into the council’s budget as the event is undesirable, however, that cannot be an excuse from us to parents and especially pupils whose resumption is imminent,” the Chairman said.
“No responsible government that has the love of her people at heart would fail to act on this urgent demands,” he added.
The Chairman promised that security personnel would be tasked with securing the schools facility day and night.
He said that the police would be assisted by some appointed members of the community.
