The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has inaugurated a new educational initiative aimed at enhancing healthcare management nationwide. The program, titled the Advanced Professional Diploma in Hospital Management, seeks to equip healthcare professionals with the necessary skills to efficiently oversee hospitals and healthcare facilities.
During the official inauguration ceremony held at LASUTH, Professor Adetokunbo Fabamwo, the Chief Medical Director, emphasized the diploma’s significance in addressing the current challenge where graduates employed as hospital administrators face limitations in career advancement without additional professional qualifications.
Prof. Fabamwo underscored LASUTH’s commitment to excellence, highlighting its track record in providing tertiary health services and medical interventions. He noted the establishment of five training schools, including the Institute of Advanced Professional Diploma in Hospital Administration and Management, as part of LASUTH’s efforts to fulfill its mandate and enhance healthcare training.
Representatives from the Lagos State Ministry of Health, including Prof. Akin Abayomi and Dr. Olusegun Ogboye, affirmed the institute’s alignment with the state government’s strategic objectives of building a world-class healthcare system. They emphasized the importance of investing in human capital development to ensure a resilient and responsive healthcare ecosystem.
Mrs. Olubunmi Fabamwo, Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, lauded the initiative for addressing professionalisation within hospital environments, aligning with previous circulars aimed at enhancing the administrative cadre’s professionalism.
Similarly, Mrs. Busola Abidakun, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Establishment, Training, and Pensions, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, emphasizing the ministry’s commitment to supporting the institute’s endeavours.
The establishment of the Advanced Professional Diploma in Hospital Management reflects LASUTH’s dedication to advancing healthcare management standards and contributes to building a robust healthcare system in Lagos State and beyond.
