The Federal Polytechnic Offa (FEDPOFFA) concerning the JAMB regularization of its students who completed their National Diploma on a part-time basis.
This compliance is crucial for their mobilization into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
In a statement signed by NANS Senate President, Afeez Akinteye, on Wednesday, the student group expressed concern over the challenges faced by these students in securing NYSC mobilization due to the institution’s refusal to adhere to the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) directive on regularizing their admission status.
Akinteye emphasized the severe consequences of the institution’s non-compliance, stating that it would deny the affected students the opportunity to participate in the NYSC scheme.
NANS is urging the FEDPOFFA Management to act swiftly to rectify this issue and ensure that all affected students are duly regularized and able to partake in the NYSC programme, thereby safeguarding their future employment prospects.
“It has come to our attention that students of Federal Polytechnic Offa, particularly those who completed their National Diploma (ND) on a part-time basis, are facing significant challenges due to the institution’s refusal to comply with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) directive on regularizing their admission status. This failure by the institution has led to a situation where these students are now unable to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, an essential component of their professional and personal development.
“The refusal of The Federal Polytechnic Offa to submit the required list for regularization will not only jeopardize the future careers of these students but also reflect poorly on the institution’s commitment to its students.
“The NYSC program is a critical phase in the life of Nigerian graduates, offering them the opportunity to contribute to national development while gaining valuable work experience. Without the ability to serve, these students face an uncertain future, as many employers consider NYSC certification a prerequisite for employment. The institution’s neglect in this matter puts these students at a significant disadvantage, undermining their hard-earned qualifications.
“Federal Polytechnic Offa has a fundamental responsibility to ensure that all students under its care are provided with the necessary support to complete their academic journey successfully. By failing to adhere to JAMB’s directive, the institution is neglecting its duties and causing undue hardship to its students. The administration of the institution must take immediate action to rectify this oversight by submitting the necessary documentation for regularization. This step is not merely a bureaucratic formality but a critical intervention to secure the future of the affected students.
“We urge the administration of Federal Polytechnic Offa to prioritize this issue and act swiftly to comply with JAMB’s directive. The students have already endured enough uncertainty and frustration due to this oversight. The institution must recognize the gravity of the situation and take the necessary steps to ensure that these students are not left behind. Additionally, we call on student bodies, alumni, and other concerned stakeholders to join in advocating for the prompt resolution of this issue. The collective voice of the community can be a powerful force in urging the institution to fulfill its responsibilities.
“Failure to address this matter promptly will not only continue to undermine the future of these students but will also attract the wrath of the Nigerian student body. The consequences of continued inaction could result in widespread unrest and a loss of trust in the institution’s leadership. Federal Polytechnic Offa must take immediate steps to avoid such repercussions and demonstrate its commitment to the welfare of its students by doing the needful without further delay.
“Moreover, we call on the Ministry of Education to launch an immediate investigation into Federal Polytechnic Offa’s failure to comply with the JAMB directive on regularization. This investigation is necessary to ensure accountability and to prevent such issues from recurring in the future. The future of these students and the credibility of the institution are at stake, and decisive action must be taken to rectify this situation promptly and efficiently,” the statement read.
