The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) chapter has vehemently condemned the tragic killing of Agabaidu Obiaje Joseph, a final-year geology student.

According to reports, the incident unfolded at approximately 7:00 pm on Saturday when Agabaidu fell victim to a suspected phone snatcher, who allegedly stabbed him while he was returning to his hostel situated just outside the campus premises.

Expressing profound sorrow and condolences, Babatunde Akinteye, the newly elected Senate President of NANS, conveyed sympathies to the grieving family, friends, and the entire ATBU community.

This sorrowful event comes on the heels of a recent tragedy at Gateway Polytechnic, Ogun State, where another student lost his life to suspected armed robbers.

Akinteye, in a strongly-worded statement, decried the unacceptable trend of senseless killings, particularly targeting students.

He called upon the federal government and security agencies to prioritize the safety of citizens, urging them to expedite efforts in apprehending those responsible for Agabaidu’s untimely demise.

NANS senate president emphasized the importance of holding the perpetrators accountable for their actions.

Further addressing the student body, Akinteye issued a clarion call for increased vigilance and security consciousness, emphasizing the collective responsibility of society in ensuring the safety and well-being of students.

He noted that the tragic incident serves as a poignant reminder of the pressing need for enhanced safety measures, both within academic institutions and their immediate environs.
