Navy offers free education, medical services to Bayelsa community

Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) SOROH has donated free educational and medical services to the people of Peremabiri Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government of Bayelsa.

The Commander, NNS SOROH, Commodore Nanmar Lakan, disclosed this during the exercise in Peremabiri on Wednesday.

He said that the essence of the exercise was to promote cooperation with the host community.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that educational materials donated includes exercise books, biros, mathematical sets, among others.
The medical services also includes free test and diagnosis on various ailments like, malaria, HIV AIDS, diabetes, eye ailment as well as free medicated eye glasses and drugs to deserving patients.
The Commander said that the outreach was part of the navy’s corporate social responsibility to the civil populate.
“This Initiative is part of NNS SOROH’s non-kenetic operations aimed at enhancing civil/military relations by providing valuable medical and educational assistance to the host community.
“This gesture aligns with the vision and strategic directive of the CNS Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla,” he said.

Lakan said that the navy remained a key stakeholder in nation-building, adding that “through initiatives like this, we aim to strengthen the bond between the Navy and the community.
“In the realm of education, we believe that knowledge is a key powerful tool for personal and communal growth. Education helps unlock opportunities.

“Empowering individuals and fostering a brighter future for the younger generation. That is why we have made concrete efforts to host today’s programme.

“This include interactive sessions aimed at encouraging and supporting students providing them with essential materials and inspiring them to strive for excellence.

“Therefore, this outreach brings healthcare professionals and services directly to the people of Peremabiri with a focus on preventive care, treatment of common ailments and health education.

“Our aim is to bridge the gap in healthcare access and contribute to the overall well-being of this community,” he said.

The Commander commended the leadership of Peremabiri community, for their warm reception and cooperation, saying that their hospitality reaffirms the close ties between the Navy and the people of Southern Ijaw.

On his part, King Wisdom Ogiriki, the Paramount Ruler of Peremabiri Community, commended the Nigerian Navy for the free medical outreach and the donation of educational materials.

“Within my 73 years of age, I have never witness such unprecedented gesture from any security outfit,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries Mrs Nemise Domotimi, commended the Navy for the free medical outreach and the donation of educational materials to students of the community. (NAN)
