The National Commissioner of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Vincent Olatunji, has highlighted the importance of student data protection.
The NDPC boss highlighted this during a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Edward Olorunsola Olanipekun, and other principal officers of the university on Monday July 24, 2023.
During the meeting which was held at EKSU, Ekiti State, the VC commended and appreciated the national commissioner for his tremendous support to the university and his giant strides in the data protection ecosystem in Nigeria.
He expressed delight in the proposed partnership between NDPC and EKSU in the areas of compliance, awareness and capacity building on Data Protection and Privacy.
The national commissioner reiterated the importance of data protection practices in the university, considering that “they are a major data processor handling the data of several students.”
He also commended the proposed partnership with the university, stating that “Nasarawa State University had also expressed interest in the same capacity.”
Olatunji also spoke about the commission’s commitment “to creating 500,000 jobs and mentioned the proposed capacity building programme for civil servants and unemployed youth in Ekiti State in collaboration with the state government.
