The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council has partnered e-Soft Content Limited.

While disclosing this at the weekend in Abuja, NERDC Executive Secretary, Prof Ismail Junaidu, explained that the essence of the partnership was facilitate the introduction of an interactive software application which would contain curriculums for junior secondary schools nationwide.

He added that the application was a means to allow school pupils benefit from the use of Information and Communication Technology to learn and study the curriculums of their various subjects.

He stated that the application, StudyMate, was the evolution of “educational materials from the traditional format to the electronic format in a bid to harness the potential of ICT in education.”

“The NERDC has the statutory responsibility to develop, review and enrich curriculum at all levels of education in Nigeria. The body also undertakes, regulates and promotes book development, and local authorship for quality assurance,” Junaidu noted.

“The advent of ICT has largely affected the ways of doing things including teaching and learning. The boundless nature of ICT has made it possible for teaching and learning to happen almost anywhere and anytime. In recent times, we have witnessed the evolution of educational materials from the traditional format to the electronic format in a bid to harness the potential of ICT in education,” he added.

He further stated that creators of educational resources like e- Soft were constantly exploring innovative ways of making learning more effective with easily accessible and affordable materials.

He described StudyMate as a clear demonstration of the improvement on the quality of teaching and learning both within and outside the walls of our classrooms.

The e-Soft Content Limited Convener, Mr Thomas Ukuedojor, said the government should assist the millions of pupils of public secondary schools particularly to have access to the application to enhance their educational performance.

He said, “Our belief is that if our children can retain knowledge, then they can perform better. To pass an examination, pupils don’t have to cram things. They just need to learn. The pupils now have an educational content where they can feel, touch and watch. This application will help pupils assimilate better and perform better.”
