The Nigerian Army Engineer Construction Command, Ede, Osun State, has extended a helping hand to the Temidire Elementary Model Primary School in Ibodi Ijesha.
As part of its ongoing ‘Exercise Still Water III,’ the Army donated a variety of essential learning and writing materials to the students, reinforcing the Chief of Army Staff’s vision of a highly motivated and transformed force.
The generous donation included crucial items such as marker boards, exercise books, pens, pencils, markers, erasers, and even refreshments.
The symbolic gesture, carried out on Thursday, aimed at not only supporting educational endeavors but also strengthening the ties between the military and the local community in the ongoing fight against insecurity in Nigeria.
Representing Brigadier General Kabiru Suleiman, the Commander of the Engineer Construction Command, Ede, Lieutenant Colonel Olufemi Akinfotire, expressed the significance of the event.
He emphasized that such Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities are pivotal in fostering collaboration between the military and the civilian population.
In his statement, Akinfotire outlined, “We are here in continuation of ‘Exercise Still Water III’ on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff to present these training and learning aids to the students and teachers of this school and to boost the cooperation between us and the civil populace.”
Highlighting the Chief of Army Staff’s vision, Akinfotire conveyed, “The Chief of Army Staff has said his vision is a joint environment and to achieve this, the military cannot do it alone.
The military can only be 20 per cent while the other 80 per cent is vested in the government.”
The Headmistress of Temidire Elementary Model Primary School, Christina Abiona, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Army’s benevolence.
She assured the military that the materials would be put to judicious use, emphasizing the school’s commitment to maximizing the impact of this significant donation.
This collaborative effort between the Nigerian Army and the local school underscores the broader objective of creating a united front against insecurity, with education emerging as a powerful tool in building a stronger and safer community.
