A team of eight high school students from Nigeria has been chosen to proudly represent their nation at the forthcoming First Global Challenge (FGC) in Singapore, scheduled to take place from October 7th to 10th.

This group of talented youngsters, aged between 14 and 18, has been meticulously selected and guided by STEM Educators in Nigeria (ASEN), an organisation committed to advancing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education within the country.

The exceptional students named for this international endeavor are Osadebanwen John-Nejoh, Adetayo Kalejaiye, Daanish Mehra, Temitope Johnson, Abdulazeez Adekunle, Bashirat Sulaiman, Fiyinfoluwa Oluokun, and Adeshina Mojoyinoluwa.

Their selection followed a rigorous screening process, designed to identify the most gifted individuals capable of representing Nigeria on the global stage.

The first global challenge, organised by the not-for-profit charity, First Global, seeks to inspire leadership and innovation among youth by empowering them through STEM education.

This year’s challenge places a significant emphasis on revolutionizing renewable energy, with a specific focus on hydrogen.

Team Nigeria has consistently participated in the FGC since its inception and has proudly secured medals in each competition, demonstrating their commitment to excellence.

Ibikunle Joshua, one of the mentors of Team Nigeria, expressed confidence in the students’ dedication to making a substantial impact through innovative solutions to renewable energy challenges.

He highlighted the impressive track record of previous Team Nigeria members, who have gained admission to top universities in the United States and other countries, often graduating at the pinnacle of their class.

The journey to selecting this exceptional team began with the registration of over 100 students drawn from various secondary schools across Nigeria. These aspiring young minds were organized into groups and assessed on their teamwork, creativity, focus, and problem-solving abilities.

Following intense competition, only the top eight were chosen to represent Team Nigeria and face off against approximately 190 nations in the upcoming FGC in Singapore.

As the nation eagerly anticipates their performance on the global stage, these talented Nigerian high school students are poised to not only represent their country but also showcase their prowess in STEM education and their commitment to addressing critical global challenges.
