A total of 84 out of 481 recipients of the Senator Albert Bassey Scholarship Scheme have been awarded N3.1 million each to cover their second-semester tuition fees and provide them with a stipend for the 2021/2022 academic session.
Dr. Unyime Okon, the head of the scholarship team, revealed that the majority of the beneficiaries, comprising 70 percent, are students pursuing degrees in Medicine and Surgery, Pharmacy, and the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Uyo.
Additionally, students from the University of Calabar, Federal University of Technology in Owerri, University of Nigeria in Nsukka, Akwa Ibom State University, and Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic in Ikot Osura have also been selected as recipients.
Out of the 84 beneficiaries, 47 of them are expected to graduate by the end of the current semester, while the remaining 37 will complete their programs by the conclusion of the 2022/2023 session.
The Senator Albert Bassey Scholarship Scheme was launched in January 2016, and since then, Senator Albert has dedicated over N150 million to the programme.
Notably, 41 beneficiaries have graduated with First-Class honors, and more than 300 have achieved Second-Class Upper division in various fields of study.
