Northwest University, Kano, has taken decisive action against academic dishonesty by expelling 41 students and rusticating 18 others for their involvement in examination malpractices during the first semester of the 2023/2024 academic year.
The decision was reached during the university’s 56th regular Senate meeting on December 30th, 2024, after careful review of recommendations from the Central Examination Misconduct Committee.
The announcement was made through a circular dated January 3rd, 2025, signed by Jafaru Sule Muhammad, Head of the Directorate of Examinations, Admissions, and Records, on behalf of the Registrar. The circular stated that the expelled and rusticated students were found guilty of violating the university’s strict examination policies.
In addition to the expulsions and rustications, the university issued written warnings to 42 students implicated in the misconduct, while two students were exonerated of all charges. The affected students hailed from a variety of faculties, including Basic Medical Science, Science, Computing, Education, Social and Management Sciences, and Humanities.
This move underscores the university’s commitment to maintaining academic integrity and upholding its examination standards.
