The National Senior Secondary Education Commission will introduce a ranking system for senior secondary schools nationwide.

The ranking will be based on the minimum benchmark standards for senior secondary schools.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr. Iyela Ajayi made this known in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Friday.

According to Ajayi, the ranking will help monitor the compliance of schools to the standards introduced by the federal government and also help parents and guardians make decisions regarding the choice of schools for their children and wards.

“Just like the National Universities Commission releases ranking for universities, we at NSSEC will also release our ranking for senior secondary schools in the country from next year.

“The ranking will be based on the minimum benchmark standards for senior secondary schools. This will focus on the qualifications of teachers, the infrastructure, adherence to curriculum, and all. The ranking will enable parents and guardians to make decisions as regards the choice of schools they want to put their children in,” he said.

Speaking further, Ajayi noted that the Commission is also working towards the revitalisation of 50 senior secondary schools across the country.

He noted that the revitalisation came on the heels of a special intervention of the National Assembly.

“The plan is to revitalise 50 senior secondary schools across the country. We are the only agency under education that has not received the two per cent CRF. The National Assembly gave a special intervention and said we should revitalise 50 senior secondary schools across the country and work has started,” he added.
