The National Universities Commission (NUC) has officially approved the establishment of the Abubakar Abdulsalami University of Agriculture and Climate Action in Mokwa, Niger State.
This specialized institution, designed to focus on agriculture, agribusiness, and climate-related issues, becomes the 65th state-owned university and the 277th university in Nigeria.
Presenting the certificate of recognition to Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, the Pro-Chancellor of Abdulkadir Kure University (AKU), Minna, Professor Mohammed Kuta Yahaya, expressed confidence that the new university would address the educational and career aspirations of Nigerlites and contribute to the broader development of the state and the nation.
Governor Bago, while receiving the certificate, commended Professor Kuta Yahaya for his dedication to advancing education in the state. “I appreciate the good work you have been doing, especially in the area of education,” the governor stated.
He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to overhauling the education sector, ensuring it aligns with the present and future needs of Niger State.
The Abubakar Abdulsalami University of Agriculture and Climate Action is the third state-owned university in Niger. The first, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) in Lapai, was established by the late former Governor, Engineer Abdulkadir Kure. The second, Abdulkadir Kure University (AKU), Minna—formerly known as the University of Education—was established less than two years ago under the guidance of Professor Kuta Yahaya as Pro-Chancellor.
The creation of this new university highlights Niger State’s commitment to educational development and innovation, particularly in addressing critical areas like agriculture and climate action.
