NUTM initiates “Invest in Her Future” campaign to mark international women’s day 2024

Nigerian University of Technology and Management, In a bold move aligned with this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” has launched its visionary “Invest in Her Future” campaign.

This campaign is poised to transform the landscape for young African women, focusing on fostering excellence in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), and management.

NUTM President, Dr. Babs Omotowa, emphasized the critical role of women in sustainable development, articulating the institution’s commitment to nurturing future leaders. The campaign spotlights NUTM’s multifaceted approach, encompassing top-notch STEM education, entrepreneurship training, mentorship, and more.

“Unlocking the immense potential of women and girls is vital to driving sustainable development across the African continent and globally,” said Dr Babs

He added, “Our innovative academic model, including scholarships, world class faculty teaching, startup incubation, and mentorship by respected industry leaders all come together to equip our women scholars with the tools to become society’s next leaders, CEOs, innovators, and positive change-makers.”

Since its establishment in 2020, NUTM has been at the forefront of providing innovative higher education solutions, carving out pathways for African youth to acquire essential technology and leadership skills. Noteworthy achievements of the university in supporting women leaders include:

  • Comprehensive curriculum covering technology, entrepreneurship, leadership, and soft skills
  • Full scholarships for young women, including those from underrepresented regions
  • 42% of graduates are women, now leading startups and excelling in top companies
  • Over $2 million was raised by 32 ventures, with several founded by women entrepreneurs
  • Creation of over 600 jobs, contributing to the empowerment of female employees
  • A remarkable 604% average increase in salary for NUTM graduates compared to pre-enrollment.

The campaign aims for over 50% female representation in all NUTM graduates by 2030, reinforcing its commitment to gender parity. Panel discussions scheduled for March 8th will feature insights from NUTM women leaders in academic and administrative roles.

Distinguished NUTM alumnae like Mary Katambi, Tiana Okere, Rasheedat Alliagbor, and Judith Ekwunife will be highlighted during these discussions. Their inspiring journeys range from overcoming adversity to driving impactful initiatives, showcasing the transformative power of education and mentorship.

Dr. Omobola Johnson, a member of NUTM’s Governing Board and a trailblazer for women’s empowerment, expressed pride in NUTM’s role in shaping the next generation of African women leaders. Mrs. Bola Adesola, another board member, emphasized the ripple effect of investing in a woman’s potential on communities, nations, and the global stage.
