The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has taken disciplinary action against 35 corps members from the 2023 Batch A, Stream II in Bayelsa State for breaching the NYSC code.
The consequences imposed include extending the service year for 21 individuals and mandating 14 others to repeat their service.
Obiageli Okpalifo, the NYSC coordinator in Bayelsa, disclosed this information on Sunday in Yenagoa during the passing out parade of 1,075 corps members who successfully completed their national service. At the ceremony, these individuals were presented with their certificates of national service.
Okpalifo expressed her congratulations to those who concluded their service successfully and recognized their significant contributions to the state during their service year.
She also extended her appreciation to employers and traditional rulers for providing a supportive environment for the corps members.
The coordinator specifically commended Governor Douye Diri for implementing welfare packages that ensured the safety and well-being of the corps members throughout their service period.
During her remarks, Okpalifo highlighted the achievements of outstanding corps members who received certificates of commendation for their distinguished service. She also praised those who participated in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Training Programmes, acknowledging their dedication to becoming self-reliant and future employers of labor.
The coordinator attributed the success of the passing out parade and the overall service year to the dedication and supervision provided by NYSC staff who mentored and monitored the corps members during their primary and secondary assignments.
