The Oyo State Ministry of Education has rescheduled the 2024 Joint Promotion Examination for SSS1 & SSS2 students and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for JSS3 students.
The original examination date, set for Wednesday, 31st July 2024, clashed with the Oro Cultural Festival in Oyo Town, which imposes restrictions on the movement of females.
The Oro Cultural Festival, a deeply rooted tradition in Oyo Town, mandates that females remain indoors on the day of the festival. Recognizing the impact this would have on female students scheduled to take their exams on the same day, the Ministry of Education, led by the Honourable Commissioner, has taken swift and decisive action to reschedule the examinations.
Awodeji J.O., the Registrar of Examinations, conveyed the decision in an official circular, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and the need to respect cultural practices while ensuring that all students have an equal opportunity to participate in their examinations.
“In view of this observation, all the affected examinations slated for Wednesday, 31st July 2024, have been rescheduled to other days,” the circular stated.
The rescheduled examination timetable has been attached for strict compliance, and educational institutions have been urged to disseminate this information widely to ensure that all students, parents, and stakeholders are informed promptly. This proactive measure aims to prevent any disruption to the academic progress of the affected students while honoring the cultural heritage of the community.
The ministry’s decision has been met with widespread approval from parents, educators, and community leaders, who appreciate the sensitivity and responsiveness shown by the educational authorities.
