The management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has issued a directive to all non-teaching staff members of the institution to resume their duties on Monday, July 31, 2023. The directive was conveyed in a memo signed by Mrs. F.O. Apara, the Acting Registrar, and obtained by our correspondent on Friday, July 26, 2023.

The memo instructed all permanent and part-time staff members to report to their respective duty posts as the institution is not on break.

“I am directed to inform all the Non-Teaching Staff Members of the Institution (Permanent/Part-Time) to report to the office and be at their various duty posts unfailingly on Monday, 31st July 2023, since the Institution is not on break,” the memo stated.

The directive comes in the wake of a proposed peaceful protest by the Students Union Government of the institution scheduled for Thursday, July 28, 2023. The student body issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic and the State Government to resolve their issues and allow academic activities to resume on campus.

Earlier on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, Edugist reported that OSPOLY ASUP members had staged a protest at the institution following the suspension of Tajudeen Odetayo as the Rector, which subsequently affected the ongoing examination of the Daily Part-Time students.

The protest led to the disruption of the examination process and the subsequent closure of the institution. The protesting body insisted that all academic activities would remain suspended until further notice.

In response to the unfolding situation, the management decided to call on the non-teaching staff members to resume their duties, signaling an effort to restore normalcy to the institution.

As the July 31 resumption date approaches, all stakeholders are urged to closely monitor the situation to see how it unfolds and whether academic activities will indeed resume as scheduled.

The hope is that a peaceful resolution can be reached to address the concerns of all parties involved and bring about a conducive environment for learning and work at Osun State Polytechnic.
