The Oyo State government in collaboration with CodeGarage Africa, 386konsult Limited, and Zeeh Africa, has successfully concluded an extensive training programme for 1,000 senior secondary school students and teachers.
Dubbed the “1000 Lines of Code” Initiative, the programme aimed to equip participants with both coding and non-coding tech skills, preparing them for the digital age.
The programme was attended by a diverse mix of students from both public and private schools in Ibadan, receiving hands-on training in various technology disciplines.
The programme not only focused on coding but also encompassed a broad spectrum of non-coding tech skills, ensuring a holistic approach to tech education.
During the closing ceremony, Reverend Idowu Ogedengbe, the Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Administration, expressed his gratitude to the participating tech firms for their invaluable contribution to the initiative.
He also commended the schools and teachers for their enthusiastic participation and commitment to fostering a tech-savvy generation.
Reverend Ogedengbe remarked, “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and equipping our youth with the necessary skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world. We are grateful to our partners and participants for making this vision a reality.”
Bayo Akande, the Senior Special Assistant on ICT, emphasized the strategic vision behind the initiative.
“The ‘1000 Lines of Code’ programme is just the beginning. Our plan is to extend this initiative across other zones in Oyo State, ensuring that more students from both public and private schools benefit from this transformative experience. We envision a future where our youth are not just consumers of technology but also creators and innovators.”
