The Borno State Police Command has successfully neutralized a potentially catastrophic situation by diffusing an improvised explosive device (IED) discovered at the entrance of the University of Maiduguri.
The incident was confirmed by ASP Nahum Daso, the command’s spokesperson, during a press briefing held on Tuesday in Maiduguri.
According to Daso, the alarming discovery was made at approximately 9:00 a.m. when a vigilant individual spotted a suspicious device near the main gate of the educational institution.
Responding swiftly to the threat, the command deployed its Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to the scene
In a skillful operation, the Explosive Ordinance Department successfully diffused the IED without any loss of lives or damage to property, averting what could have been a devastating event.
Following the disposal of the explosive device, the command undertook a thorough sanitization of the surrounding area to ensure the safety of the university community and the general public.
ASP Nahum Daso emphasized that an investigation has been initiated to identify the individuals responsible for planting the device and to ascertain their motives.
In a cautionary statement, Daso urged the residents of Borno to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects or persons to the nearest security outfit promptly.
This, he emphasized, is crucial in preventing potential threats and ensuring the safety of lives and properties in the region.
