President, Bola Tinubu, has sacked the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman.

This was announced in a statement released by the presidency on Wednesday afternoon, following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR has approved the immediate implementation of eight far-reaching actions to reinvigorate the Administration’s capacity for optimal efficiency pursuant of his commitment to deliver on his promises to Nigerians,” the statement read.

Alongside Mamman, four other ministers were also removed from their positions: Barrister Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism; Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development; and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development.

The decision to remove the Minister of Education has drawn substantial public attention, particularly as many citizens expressed satisfaction with the change.

One commenter, Costa, noted, “Nah, that education minister makes me happy the most,” reflecting widespread frustration regarding the perceived stagnation in the education sector during Mamman’s tenure.

Another observer echoed these concerns, stating, “I believe the education sector has not done much, and there is much to be done within the education space,” highlighting the urgent need for reforms to tackle the myriad challenges facing Nigeria’s educational institutions.

President Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle is seen as a proactive measure to enhance the effectiveness of his administration, with expectations of further appointments to fill the vacancies created by this significant overhaul.
