In a heartwarming moment at the Lagos State University (LASU) convocation ceremony held on Thursday, April 10, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a cash reward of N10 million for the institution’s best-graduating student, Ojo Nwosu Isioma. Nwosu, who studied Biochemistry, graduated with a remarkable Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.93—earning her the title of the overall best-graduating student.
The award was presented by the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, who represented Governor Sanwo-Olu at the ceremony. While addressing the audience, the governor praised Nwosu’s exceptional academic performance, stating that her achievement had brought immense pride to the Lagos State government, the university, and the wider academic community.
“Education is the backbone of our society, and we must recognise its importance in addressing societal needs and human development,” Sanwo-Olu said. “As leaders, we must ensure our educational system remains relevant and effective in providing innovative solutions to real-life problems.”
He reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to providing quality education and creating an enabling environment for students across the state. Highlighting ongoing partnerships, he noted that Lagos State is working in collaboration with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to ensure students receive the financial support necessary to pursue academic excellence.
Nwosu’s reward stands not only as a recognition of her hard work and dedication but also as a motivating symbol for other students striving for excellence within Nigeria’s education system.
