A Nigerian scholar and Senior Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor, Dr Odedoyin Odebowale, has faulted the country’s current curriculum and the process of certification in the higher institutions
While disclosing this on his Facebook page on Friday July 17, 2020, Odebowale noted the curriculum of education is faulty and does not reflect the challenges the society faces.
According to him, the curriculum of education must reflect “the challenges of a society and provide empirical solutions.”
“The current certification process, generally taken as evidence of progression and readiness to tackle problems, will perpetuate poverty. No real capacity can be developed, in vacuo,” he stated.
He added that the only way to tackle the misery of the people is to train the students how to solve problems.
“There will be no end to the misery of the people until and unless our schools train our children to solve problems affecting our survival and development,” Odebowale noted.
“The current system of education is a huge waste of time and resources.
“Certificates mean nothing without evidential capacity to engage issues of existence for the benefit of the inhabitants of a given environment,” he added.
