Vincent Paul, a senior lecturer at Nasarawa State University, has urged the inclusion of cultural studies in educational curricula for national unity and peace.

The lecturer from the Department of Entrepreneurship Studies at Nasarawa State University, proposed a strategic solution in response to the growing concerns over security challenges in Nigeria.

Speaking during the Eggon Annual Cultural Festival in the Galle Community of Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area, Paul emphasized the importance of integrating cultural studies into educational curricula to foster unity, peace, and respect for the nation’s diversity.

Addressing a diverse audience during his keynote speech themed “Celebrating Our Culture, Honouring Our Heroes, and Building Our Future,” Paul underscored the pivotal role of cultural heritage in shaping and reorganizing society.

He called on political leaders to prioritize the harnessing of the nation’s cultural potential, recognizing its significance in promoting social cohesion.

Paul asserted, “There is a need for the Federal and state governments to initiate programs aimed at developing the capacity of local communities, institutions, and professional bodies involved in the preservation of cultural artifacts. This is a crucial step towards sustainable unity in our country.”

Highlighting the broader responsibility of the elite, academia, and the political class, Paul urged them to focus on innovative ideas that promote cross-cultural understanding, tolerance, and respect for the diversity of citizens.

He emphasized that these efforts should go beyond the academic realm, extending to practical initiatives that contribute to a more integrated and harmonious society.

The Eggon Annual Cultural Festival, known as Galle Day, serves as a platform for Eggon sons and daughters, particularly from the Galle Community of Nasarawa Eggon LG, to engage in discussions about development.
