Student, Farmers in Court for Abduction

A student and three farmers were on Tuesday arraigned before a Grade 1 Area Court, Lugbe, Abuja for abducting Dorcas Adeyemi, a 14-year-old female student.

The accused persons, Awal Suleman,18, Buhari Nasiru, 18, Ali Habiba, 18, and Habiba Aliyu, all of Lugbe zone 9 Airport Road, Abuja, were arraigned for abduction.

Prosecutor Paul Anigbo told the court that the complainant, Adeyemi Olabode of FHA Lugbe, had on July 13, lodged the complaint at Lugbe Police Station.

Paul said that the complainant niece, Dorcas left home for school and was not seen for days.

He said that in course of an independent investigation by the complainant, it was gathered that Suleman, the first accused, was seen walking out of the school premises with her.

He said that during the police investigation, it was discovered that Suleman took her to the residence of Habiba Aliyu in zone 9.

Paul said that she was rescued by policemen but during the period of her captivity, the four accused persons and one Wallam Kabiru now at large conspired, and changed her name to Zainab.

“According to the first information report, the four accused persons and Wallam Kabiru conspired without the knowledge of the parents converted her to Islam and changes her name to Zainab.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 272 of the Penal Code.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the Charge.

The prosecutor also prayed the court to grant him date to open his case against the accused persons.

The Judge, Mr Gambo Garba, ordered that the first accused person Suleman be remanded in Kuje Prison.

Garba also granted the three other accused persons bail in the like sum of N50,000, and adjourned the case till Aug. 18, for further hearing.
