The Taraba State Government has taken action against the Principal and Examination Officer of Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), Salihu Dogo in Jalingo, the state capital.
The State Ministry of Education issued a letter suspending both individuals following allegations of their involvement in the illicit sale of West African Examination Certificate (WAEC) and National Examination Certificate (NECO) forms.
The suspended principal, identified as Haruna Joshua Assembo, and the Examination Officer, Ezekiel Rimamsikwe, stand accused of attempting to undermine the state governor’s free education initiative, led by Dr Agbu Kefas. Allegations suggest that they were selling exam slots to external candidates for personal profit, despite the government’s provision of funds to cover the costs of WAEC and NECO exams for all eligible students in the state.
To investigate the matter thoroughly, the Ministry has established an investigative committee.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Principal, Administration, has been tasked with overseeing the school’s operations, and the Examination Officer has been instructed to hand over his duties to a qualified individual pending the outcome of the investigation. This action underscores the government’s commitment to upholding educational integrity and ensuring equitable access to educational resources for all students.
