In a groundbreaking move to enhance the quality of basic education, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has underscored the crucial role of research in transforming the sector.
Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, emphasized the importance of conducting timely and effective research to avoid the pitfalls of abandoned projects.
He highlighted this during a three-day onboarding workshop organized by UBEC’s Digital Resource Center (DRC) for the newly appointed research project screening committee members.
Speaking on behalf of Bobboyi, Professor Bashir Galadanci, the National Coordinator of UBEC DRC, explained that the workshop aimed to provide orientation and guidance.
It was designed to familiarize committee members with their roles and equip them with the necessary tools and information to execute their duties proficiently.
Phebe Jatau, Head of the Research Unit at UBEC DRC, lauded the inauguration of the screening committee as a significant milestone. She asserted that this marked the commencement of a journey poised to shape the future of research activities within the DRC.
The three-day workshop served as a platform for onboarding the committee members with the research project’s prerequisites and terms of engagement.
During the interactive sessions, committee members delved into the research manual, policy document, and work plan.
They engaged in detailed discussions to grasp the criteria for selecting research materials, comprehend the goals of the UBEC DRC project, and align with the organization’s overarching vision.
This initiative by UBEC is set to herald a new era of impactful research in basic education, ensuring that studies are conducted within specified timelines and thereby enhancing their relevance and application.
