The Senate of the University of Abuja has approved a revised academic calendar for the 2024/2025 session, marking a key decision in its 187th regular meeting.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the university confirmed that 192 members attended the meeting, during which several important resolutions were made, including the scheduling of the next convocation ceremony.
One of the highlights of the session was the election of a new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), with Abubakar Abba of the Department of Political Science emerging victorious.
“The process was widely acknowledged as fair, transparent, and credible, culminating in an outcome that has been universally accepted,” the statement noted.
The Senate also addressed concerns over attempts to tarnish the university’s reputation, condemning individuals allegedly spreading falsehoods and engaging in blackmail.
“The senate unequivocally condemned the actions of certain individuals who, driven by personal interests, sought to tarnish the reputation of the university through the dissemination of falsehoods, calumny, and blackmail via the media,” the statement added.
In response, the Senate urged the university management to take firm disciplinary action against any individuals or groups involved in misconduct or activities that could undermine UniAbuja’s standing.
