Uniabuja student emerges winner of essay competition

A 300 level Engineering student, Awah Henritta Uche, has emerged the 1st prize winner in an essay competition organised by the Nigerian Institute of Environmental Engineers, a division of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, (NSE) to mark the 2023 World Environment Day.

The competition which drew participants from all over the Federal Capital Territory, held under the theme “Solutions to Plastic Pollution,” on Monday 5th June, 2023 at the Nigerian Society of Engineers Headquarters, Central Business District, Abuja.

Awah, who got a certificate of award and cash prize, said she got to know about the competition from her faculty group chat on Whatsapp and was initially skeptical about participating in the competition. “At first, I was quite skeptical about writing the essay. I had written one sometime in my first year but I didn’t win. I was encouraged by my colleagues to write it.”

On how she felt about winning, she said she was quite elated and hope to win more essays in the future, “I really hope to write other essays and I look forward to winning them too.”
