The University of Calabar has announced a pivotal change in its admissions process for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Initially slated to commence on Monday, August 26, 2024, the Post-UTME screening exercise will no longer proceed as planned.
This decision arises from a comprehensive assessment of current national challenges, including the high cost of transportation due to fuel scarcity, accommodation issues, logistics, and the prevailing security concerns.
In a statement released by the University’s management, it was highlighted that these factors have significantly contributed to the decision to cancel the traditional Post-UTME aptitude test.
Instead, the University will adopt an O’Level point grading system to evaluate candidates for admission.
Candidates who selected the University of Calabar as their first choice and have registered for the 2024 Post-UTME are instructed to visit the closest JAMB-CBT center to upload their O’Level results.
The University will utilize a point tally system based on these results to score all candidates.
This strategic shift aims to streamline the admissions process and mitigate the logistical and financial burdens on applicants and their families.
To accommodate this transition, the University has extended the registration deadline for the Post-UTME screening exercise by one week. Candidates who have not yet registered are encouraged to take advantage of this extension and complete their registration by Saturday, August 31, 2024. It is important to note that there will be no further extensions beyond this date, and the registration portal will be permanently closed on August 31, 2024.
Gabriel O. Egbe, the Registrar of the University, expressed his regret for any inconvenience caused by this sudden change. However, he emphasized that the decision was made in the best interest of all stakeholders, considering the prevailing national issues.
