Authorities of University of Lagos have appointed Dr (Mrs.) Taiwo Folashade Ipaye as the Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council of the Institution. The appointment takes effect from August 1, 2013 for a five year term.
Her appointment followed the ratification of the Report of the Selection Board by the Governing Council at a meeting held on Thursday, July 18, 2013.
Born on September 25, 1964 in Lagos, Nigeria, Dr. Taiwo Folasade Ipaye (nee Davies) is an indigene of Lagos Island East, Lagos State. The old student of Our Lady of Apostles Secondary Grammar School, Oyo State (1981) holds a Bachelor of Education/History from the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife-Ife (1985) as well as a Master’s Degree and Doctorate Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Lagos (1987 and 2008, respectively).
After observing the compulsory National Youth Service Corps Scheme at the Lagos Anglican Girls Secondary School, Lagos, Dr. Ipaye worked as Teacher/Head of Social Studies Department, King Ado High School, Lagos Island from 1987 to 1988 and Administrative Officer I at the Lagos State Polytechnic, Isolo, from 1988 to 1989.
The astute administrator joined the services of the University of Lagos as Administrative Officer I in December, 1989. In February 1991, she became an Assistant Secretary in the Provost Office, Senior Assistant Secretary in October 1996 and Principal Assistant Secretary in October, 2000. As a Principal Assistant Secretary, she was in charge of the Personnel Unit of the College of Medicine which has three sections: Academic Personnel, Administrative and Technical Personnel as well as the Junior Personnel Sections.
In 2009, she transferred her service from the College of Medicine, Idi-Araba to the Main Campus, Akoka as Deputy Registrar. In September, 2010, she was transferred to the Examination Office where she served as the Head until her appointment as Registrar.
In her 24 years of meritorious sojourn in University administration, Dr. Ipaye who is quite conversant with academic staff matters as well as public relations issues has worked at close quarters with three Provosts of the College of Medicine and actively participated in the formulation and execution of policies and ideas. She has handled teaching and non-teaching staff appointment, staff welfare, protocol and general administration.
Apart from her administrative schedule, she has served the University on various committees: member of International School, Lagos (ISL) Board; Committee on Non-Teaching Staff Establishment, Central Time-Table Committee and Task-Force on Missing Results.
Other areas where Dr. Ipaye has distinguished herself include: Facility Manager for the Information Communication Technology Project donated by the Education Trust Fund to the University; Member, Committee for the Implementation of the Assimilation of the School of Radiography and Junior Staff Disciplinary Committee as well as Secretary, Medilag Venture Board, the ETF/IT Committee and the National Association of College of Medicine (NACOM).
Outside the University of Lagos, she is a member of OSUSTECH Administrative & Technical Staff Advisory Committee (2010 – Date); Ikoyi Club 1938 and British Council Library. She is also the Board Secretary of the University of Lagos Women Society Nursery and Primary School; Assistant Coordinator, Victoria Island/Lekki Home-Fellowship of Chapel of Christ Our Light, University of Lagos as well as member of the Youth and Teenage Camp Planning Committee of the same Church.
A prolific writer, Dr. Ipaye has, to her credit, over twenty (20) publications which include dissertations/abstracts, books, chapters in books and papers presented at workshops and conferences. She is currently working on at least two research projects: Restructuring the Healthcare Administrative System:- Implication for Healthcare Delivery and Sanctions as Deterrents for Student Academic Misconduct.
She is a member of several professional bodies including: Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA, 1992); Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM, 2000); Association of University Administrators (AUA, UK, 2003); Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) Human Resources Management Network (2007) and Women in Management Association (WIMA, 2012). She has attended several local and international professional development courses in Nigeria, Ghana, Tobago, United Kingdom and United States of America.
Dr. Taiwo Folashade Ipaye who enjoys writing, sewing and cooking, is happily married to Engineer Bolaji Ipaye and blessed with children.
