The medical students of the College of Medicine at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), under the auspices of the KB KLUB, proudly launched the 2023 edition of their MediPhil magazine.

Themed ‘Avance: Breaking Barriers,’ this edition is a testament to the Klub’s commitment to innovation and philanthropy.

The event kicked off with Covenant Onyegbula, the general secretary of the KB KLUB, declaring the ceremony open.

This was followed by a poignant address from Professor Abiodun Akinwuntan, who highlighted the Klub’s remarkable 55-year journey.

He emphasised the significance of the cover of the magazine and encouraged all attendees to delve into its rich content.

Paul Oladipupo, the editor of the MediPhil magazine, described it as a fusion of medicine and philanthropy, aimed at shedding light on advancements in the medical field while celebrating the Klub’s core value of giving back to society.

Oladipupo revealed that the MediPhil’23 edition features exclusive interviews with prominent figures and celebrates the Klub’s numerous achievements.

“Readers will find insightful contributions from luminaries such as Professor Folasade Ogunsola, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos; Professor Wasiu Adeyemo, Chief Medical Director of Lagos University Teaching Hospital; and Professor Abosede Afolabi, Head of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Lagos,” Oladipupo added.

The magazine’s cover stars Filani Oyebanji, Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Ekiti State, and Kunle Soname, Chairman of KC Gaming Networks and BLFA Group, encapsulating the edition’s theme of breaking barriers in both the medical and philanthropic arenas.

Oyebanji expressed his excitement and commended the Klub for their dedication, while Soname shared his inspiration from the Klub’s relentless efforts to improve healthcare.

“Through my work, I am committed to advancing healthcare accessibility and quality, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to lead a healthy and fulfilling life,” Soname remarked.

Professor Folasade Ogunsola, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, extended her heartfelt congratulations to the Klub, praising their hard work and societal contributions.

“It is always a delight to be part of any KB KLUB event. Wherever I go, I proudly boast about you all – students at the top of their game, hardworking and dedicated to the betterment of society and the nation. Look no further than KB KLUB if you seek exceptional people,” she stated.

A video interview with the Klub’s founding father, Professor Oladapo Ashiru, set the stage for a speech by the Deputy Provost, Professor Odebiyi, who spoke on behalf of the Provost, Professor David Oke. Professor Oke lauded the magazine theme and encouraged future generations to draw inspiration from the Klub’s spirit of breaking barriers and pursuing excellence.

The event also featured a documentary highlighting the Klub’s initiatives, including the impressive ‘Your Power to Gift Life’ blood drive, which collected over 400 donations in just seven hours.

In his closing remarks, Mustapha Madehin, the president of the KB KLUB, underscored the significance of MediPhil’23 and the Klub’s enduring legacy. He announced that both the current and past editions of the magazine are available digitally on the KB KLUB’s official website.

“The magazine offers a wealth of knowledge and inspiration. It’s essential reading for anyone interested in medicine, philanthropy, and academic excellence,” Madehin concluded.

The MediPhil’23 launch not only showcased the Klub’s achievements but also served as a beacon of inspiration, urging all to break barriers and strive for excellence in their respective fields.
