The University of Birmingham announced an exciting opportunity for African scholars to apply for the Cadbury Research Fellow in African Studies 2024.

This fellowship, spanning 18 months, aims to enrich the university’s research environment and teaching within the African Studies field. Funded by an endowment, the fellowship invites members of staff from sub-Saharan African universities to engage in a tailored research program at the University of Birmingham.

Benefits:
This prestigious fellowship is exclusively available to applicants currently situated on the African continent and affiliated with an African Higher Education Institution. Successful candidates will receive a starting salary typically ranging from £34,980 to £44,263 per annum. While funding is limited, the maximum salary offered for this position is Grade 7, with a salary capped at £44,263.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet specific criteria to be considered for the fellowship:
– Currently based in Africa and employed by or affiliated with an African Higher Education Institution.
– Candidates must either not hold a permanent academic position or provide a statement from their home institution confirming their release for the fellowship period.
– Possession of a doctorate obtained between September 1, 2018, and April 1, 2024, with submitted theses pending examination deemed ineligible.
– A demonstrable track record of research and publications commensurate with post-doctoral experience.

Application process:

Interested candidates should compile the aforementioned documents and submit them via the university’s online application portal. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee, with shortlisted candidates invited for interviews. Successful applicants will be notified in due course, with the fellowship tenure commencing thereafter.
