The academic community of Wigwe University is in mourning following the unexpected and mysterious death of its Registrar, Ulonna Inyama, at a hospital in Abuja.
The incident has sparked serious concerns about medical negligence and the safety protocols within Nigerian healthcare facilities.
Inyama’s untimely demise reportedly occurred due to complications arising from fibroid surgery and an erroneous blood transfusion.
According to a family source, Inyama was initially admitted to a hospital in Abuja to undergo treatment for fibroid issues. However, she suffered a fatal reaction after being administered the wrong blood type.
“She died of loss of blood due to fibroid complications under mysterious circumstances. We were told that a wrong blood transfusion led to her death,” the source revealed to Vanguard on Monday in Abuja.
The source further explained that Inyama’s condition deteriorated rapidly due to the complications, leading to her referral to another hospital where she ultimately passed away.
This tragic incident has raised significant questions about the quality of medical care and safety measures in place at Nigerian hospitals. Ms. Inyama’s family has called for a thorough investigation to uncover the details surrounding her death and to hold accountable those responsible for the alleged medical negligence.
The Wigwe University community is still grappling with the devastating loss of its founder, Herbert Wigwe, who perished in a helicopter crash in California, USA, along with his wife and son just months ago.
The recent passing of Ms. Inyama adds to the university’s grief, marking another profound loss for the institution.
