The Rector, Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, Dr Samson Adegoke, has warned the college’s new students that no one will graduate from the college unless they acquire a vocational skill.
He added that the college has provided a well-equipped skill acquisition centre, where students can learn a vocation that they can rely on for livelihood after graduation.
Addressing newly admitted students of the college during matriculation at the college’s multi-purpose hall on Friday, he noted that the programmes are designed in short courses aimed at impacting skills required in all workplaces for professionalism, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance.
According to the rector, the college prepares her Students thoroughly for the highly competitive labour market. Emphasis is placed on programs that are capable of making students self-reliant, the College has a well-equipped vocational centre known as the Centre for Entrepreneurship, Vocational Skills Acquisition and Empowerment, CEVSAE.
“At this Centre, students can learn vocations they can rely on after graduation. As a matter of fact, the pre-condition for graduation is that, each student must acquire a skill in any vocation of his/her choice before graduating at both ND and HND levels. It also has provision for training the unemployed, underemployed, retirees, professionals who wants to be certified and people of similar intents in skills acquisition in any discipline.

The Rector, however, urged the matriculants to be good ambassadors of the institutions by shunning cultism and other vices that can tarnish the reputation of the college.
