1. FUTA was established in 1981 in Akure, Ondo State.
2. The goal was to produce graduates with practical as well as theoretical knowledge of technologies.
3. The university’s motto is “Technology for Self-Reliance,”. It reflects its commitment to equipping students with the skills needed to become self-reliant and capable of contributing to national and global technological advancements.
4. Alhaji (Dr.) Umar Faruk II, the Emir of Katagum, is the Chancellor of the university.
5. In 2022, it was ranked as the 5th best university in Nigeria by the World University Rankings.
6. The current vice chancellor of the university is Prof. Adenike Oladiji.
7. The university’s central library was named after Professor Albert Ilemobade, who was the second Vice-Chancellor of the university.
8. The university operates a radio station, FUTA Radio (93.1 MHz), on the campus.
9. The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) is home to several research teams that contribute to advancements in various fields of study.
10. The first VC of the institution is Theodore Idibiye Francis, and he was in office from 1981–1987.
