Ipso facto, education, whether formal or informal, is very important to every society. It will be wrong to assume that only those who went to school (that is, acquire formal education) are educated. Education dispels ignorance and enlightens people. It shapes individuals’ futures and plays an important role in the development of the nation. An educated person is someone whose mind has been freed from the holds of myths and superstitious beliefs.Education is a fundamental human right and a powerful tool for individual and societal development. Despite the challenges facing the Nigerian education system, the importance of education cannot be overstated,the John Q Public must take note.

Education is a powerful tool for breaking the cycle of poverty ab initio. Education helps raise income levels and improve living standards by providing individuals with the skills needed for gainful employment. According to the World Bank, every additional year of schooling can increase a person’s income by up to 10%. In Nigeria, where poverty is a significant challenge, education offers a pathway to economic empowerment, resurgence and social mobility.

Education increases the knowledge
The price people pay for ignorance is exorbitant. Since education increases knowledge, which in itself is the cure for ignorance, education is important to us, as individuals. Knowledge acquired can be in diverse fields but ultimately, it is such that it can better our lives and make us more civil citizens of our country, Nigeria.
