For the society to control childbirth, women must gear their efforts towards educating their girls on the hazard of having too much children, a non-governmental organisation, Esteemed Hub Foundation, has suggested.
Executive Director of the foundation, Doo Agbadu, stated this in his opening remarks at an event to commemorate the World Population Day (WPD) 2023, in Niger State, on Sunday.
Theme of the event organised in partnership with Education As a Vaccine (EVA), is ‘Unleashing the Power of Gender Equality: Uplifting the Voice of Women and Girls to Unlock a World’s Infinite Possibilities.
Agbadu explained that sending a girl to school at an early age would go a long way in teaching her to take charge of her life and equipping her to pursue a future career.
“If a girl goes to school at an early age, she would be more aware of the dangers of having too many children.”
So, she can make deliberate decisions on how to protect her life,” she said.
Agbadu enjoined parents, community and religious bodies to assist in training children properly, mentoring them in schools through school clubs and sensitising them, so they would not become problems to their parents and communities.
She noted that since children in the streets are proving difficult to control, society should do everything to protect generations to come.
The ED appealed to governments at all levels, schools and corporate organisations to synergise and help in raising children properly.
