The management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, has announced a penalty for students’ late registration.
In a statement signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Senate, Kolawole Saliu, a student who failed to complete his/her registration six (6) weeks before examinations of eleven (11) weeks will pay a sum of ten thousand naira [N10,000].
According to the statement, the delay in students ‘payment of school fees might not necessarily be caused by parents’ financial problems as was initially thought, but due to students’ misappropriation of funds made available to them by their parents or guardians.
The statement read: “The Senate, at its 185th meeting held on Wednesday, 26th July, 2023 was informed about the students habit of late registration due to late payment of school fees.
“In the course of deliberation, the Senate noted that: (i) delay on students payment of school fees might not necessarily be caused by parents financial problem as was initially thought, but duo to students’ misappropriation of fund made available to them by their parents or guardians;
“(ii) students should be reminded about the consequences of late registration; (iii), there is the need to implement the decision on closure of the portal six (6) weeks before semester examinations or 11 weeks after resumption; and (iv.) measures should be put in place by the University Authorities to curtal! the excesses of students during examinations.
“The Senate, after an extensive deliberation, approved that: (i) The University portal be closed six (6) weeks before examinations of eleven (11) wooks after resumption to curtai further registration of Courses, (ii.) Ten thousand naira should be charged as penalty for for late registration. The decisions of Senate on the above are hereby communicated to you for your information and necessary action, please.”
