The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering dedication to prioritising school safety as a pivotal component of the State Government’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda.
This resolute commitment was reiterated during his recent address at the inaugural “Beacon of Safety Award” (BOS Award) ceremony organised by Safe School Lagos (SSLAG), in collaboration with the Safe School Alliance.
Governor Sanwo-Olu commended the awardees for their unwavering commitment to enhancing safety within Lagos schools, emphasising the pressing need for more schools to align with the state’s safety initiatives.
Represented at the event by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, the governor described the award as a valuable addition to the collaborative efforts aimed at ensuring safety in all educational institutions.
He underscored the significance of partnerships between government agencies and private organisations in this endeavour.
Highlighting the accomplishments of the 24 honoured schools, the governor praised their exemplary compliance with safety initiatives, attributing their success to sincere dedication and commitment to safety practices, thus effectively reducing risks both within and around their premises.
Bisi Esuruoso, the Lead Resource of Safe School Lagos (SSLAG), shed light on Lagos state’s progressive efforts to leverage technology for implementing and sustaining safety programs across schools. She emphasized that the current administration has forged essential partnerships with pertinent agencies, including the police and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), to bolster safety within educational institutions.
Esuruoso unveiled the organisation’s foray into the technology sector, where it actively engages stakeholders to achieve its objectives.
She revealed the creation of a portal that consolidates critical safety information for schools that are part of the initiative.
This platform allows schools to upload incidents, record, and report real-time information.
Additionally, SSLAG is actively involved in internet safety, offering cybersecurity tools to schools to safeguard students from accessing inappropriate online content while on school premises.
The culminating point of the event was the special recognition of 24 schools for their unwavering dedication to enhancing safety practices and minimizing risks in the school environment.
