Nnaemeka Vitus Emmanuel, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Benin City, Edo State, has announced a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering over 100 orphans with vital digital skills.
Dubbed ‘OrphanHub’, the project is poised to equip orphaned youths aged 12 and above with essential technological competencies, marking a significant step towards bridging the digital divide and fostering socio-economic independence.
Speaking exclusively to the Nigerian Tribune, Emmanuel revealed the intricate details of his visionary undertaking, scheduled to unfold between April 2nd and April 19th.
With unwavering dedication, Emmanuel outlined his mission to provide purposeful empowerment to underprivileged youths and children within the state. The three-week training program, set to convene every Wednesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Edo Innovative Hub on Wire road in Benin, promises to cover a diverse array of topics crucial for thriving in today’s digitally-driven landscape.
According to him, participants will delve into fundamental areas including basic computer literacy, photography, videography, editing, cyberspace and online safety, web development using WordPress CMS, digital marketing fundamentals, graphics design essentials, and social media management.
Moreover, the top 10 outstanding participants will be awarded personal computers (laptops), amplifying their prospects in the competitive labor market and facilitating socio-economic autonomy.
Emmanuel emphasized the resonance of his initiative with the vision of Governor Godwin Obaseki, underscoring its alignment with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals aimed at fostering quality education and bolstering industry, innovation, and infrastructure. Moreover, the project has garnered strategic partnerships with governmental bodies and media entities including the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issues, Ministry of Communication and Orientation, Nigeria Television Authority, Edo Innovative Hub, Nigerian Observer’s Newspaper, and various private channels.
Public participation is actively encouraged, with avenues for financial support or engagement of youths and orphanage communities to contribute to the success of the programme.
