Greensprings School students have achieved a remarkable feat with their groundbreaking phone application, ‘Juiceitup,’ winning $7.2 million in scholarships along with a cash prize of N2.5 million in the Conrad Challenge.
For the second consecutive year, three students from Greensprings School – Idara Attah, Imaobong Apkan Chinyere, and Mirabel Njoku, collectively known as ‘Team Lavendaire,’ emerged as the overall best in Nigeria category winners at the final stage of the 2024 Conrad Challenge.
Their winning project, ‘Juiceitup,’ utilises an AI algorithm to provide personalised juice-making ratios from various fruits to assist in patients’ recovery from illnesses.
According to a statement from the school, the achievement marks a significant milestone for the students, as they not only secured scholarships valued at $894,000 but also received a cash prize of N1.5 million. Additionally, nine other teams from Greensprings School, who made it to the finals, were awarded $6.4 million in scholarships. The first runner-up team from the school also received a cash prize of N1 million.
This triumph follows the success of another trio from Greensprings, Segun Balogun, Adewale Saliu, and David Onukwugha, who clinched the overall best-in-Nigeria position in the 2023 Conrad Challenge and represented Nigeria at the Global Conrad Summit at NASA’s Johnson/Kennedy Space Center, USA.
Mr. Afolabi Amusan, Assistant Principal of Enhancement, commended the students for their outstanding performance, emphasizing the rigorous preparation and dedication of both the students and their teachers. He highlighted the involvement of 35 students organized into 10 teams, who were meticulously coached and supported by a team of dedicated teachers led by Mr. Aleilo and Mr. Raimi.
Moreover, Team Lavendaire’s success will see them representing Nigeria at the 2024 Conrad World Summit in April at The Space Center in Houston, USA. Other notable achievements include Team Mono, the first runner-up, receiving a cash prize of N1 million, and each member of the nine finalist teams being awarded scholarships amounting to $6,400,000 across various prestigious universities in the USA.
Mrs. Lai Koiki, the Executive Director of Greensprings, expressed her heartfelt congratulations to the students and their mentors, recognizing their hard work and dedication. Similarly, Mrs. Feyisara Ojugo, the School’s Deputy Director of Education, praised the students’ achievements, emphasizing the importance of celebrating their success and expressing gratitude to the team of teachers and coaches who supported them throughout the challenge.
